Project Being Considered

PROJECT AT A GLANCE

  • Total project site size approximately 101 hectares
  • 50MWp energy capacity
  • Capacity to power up to 10,000 homes
  • Displace up to 20,000 tonnes of carbon
  • Dedicated Community Benefit Fund
  • Fixed south-facing frames
  • Maximum height of 3 metres above ground level

Project Proposal

The Irishtown Solar Project is a 50MWp project, located within the Fingal Local Authority area, near the Dublin/Meath border. It will have the potential to power over 10,000 homes with clean energy while also displacing over 20,000 tonnes of carbon. Irishtown is being developed by Statkraft Ireland.

The project will see the installation of solar panels on agricultural land and once operational, it will provide renewable energy to the local electricity grid system. The solar panels will consist of mono-crystalline silicon solar cells laminated behind a sheet of glass to make a weatherproof package.

At the proposed height, the existing vegetation will provide some screening of the site and additional planting will be provided if necessary. The project will connect into a sub-station which is being constructed on the Ballymacarney site and all necessary cabling will be underground.

Current Stage

This project at Irishtown is being brought forward for planning approval as an extension to the already existing, and adjoining, Ballymacarney solar site. A substation will be constructed and once completed, the installation of the solar panels will begin.

A link to the Ballymacarney project site can be found on our Useful Links page.

As this project moves on through to construction and operational phases, we will continue to engage with the local community.

Overview of the Design Stages

Design Stage % Design Description
Initial Scoping 0 - 40% Based on high-level information
Preliminary Layout 40 - 80% Fluid and frequently open to change
Design Layout 80 - 100% Sufficiently fixed to allow meaningful discussion
Planning Layout 100% Fixed for presentation to the appropriate planning authority

At Statkraft, we are very much aware of the importance of having a mix of renewable technologies to deliver climate action. We build and operate both solar projects and wind farms, and in every project we develop, thoughtful consideration is given to what is appropriate for a local area.

Timeline

It is intended to make a planning application for this project in July of 2022.
